September 1 Meeting: Judge Tim Irwin

TIMOTHY EDWARD IRWIN BIO:

Born Timothy Edward Irwin in Memphis, Tennessee, Tim attended Central High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. He played tight end and noseguard and was an all-state selection in football, an All-East Tennessee nominee as a center on the school basketball team and a City Champion in the Discus in 1976. Tim was a 3-year letterman, a 2 year starter, a captain, and team offensive MVP as a senior at the University of Tennessee. He played in the Japan Bowl and the East-West Shrine Game. He was named to the All Southeastern Conference Team, the All South Team, and was an academic All-American selection. He was the recipient of an NCAA post-graduate scholarship. He graduated with honors majoring in political science (1976-1980).

In 1981 Tim was the 74th player selected in the draft by to the Minnesota Vikings. He was active for all 16 games with the Minnesota Vikings as a backup at both the tackle positions in his first season. Tim was with the Vikings through 1993 and ended that season with a consecutive starts streak of 197 regular season games and 10-play off games for a total of 207 consecutive starts. In 1994 he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Miami Dolphins. He was named to the 100 Year Team for the University of Tennessee in 1991, and was named to the 40 Year Anniversary Team for the Minnesota Vikings in 2000. He was inducted into the Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Knoxville Central High School Hall of Fame in 2006.

Tim attended William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota and graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1990. He was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1990. In 1995 Tim became an associate in the Law Firm of Herbert S. Moncier, and in 1996 he became a partner in the Firm of McCord, Troutman & Irwin, PC. In 2000 he opened his own law office where he practiced in the field of criminal defense, juvenile justice, personal injury and sports law. In 2005 he was appointed to the position of Knox County Juvenile Court Judge and was officially elected to the position in August 2006.

Tim lives in Knoxville with his wife, Sharon and their three children, Mallory, Conor and Logan. He is a member, and former chairman of the corporate board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of East Tennessee, board member and former President of the NFLPA Retired Players, a member and former president of the Knoxville Chapter of the National Football League Retired Players Association, and past President of the University of Tennessee Letterman’s Association. He is also the founder of Catholic Youth Football, an organization with over 190 young men playing football each fall.
